Tea remains the primary focus of the entire group, with eight state-of-the-art factories in the Sabaragamuwa Province contributing to 12 million kilograms of premium quality tea per year. The company produces six percent of the country’s low grown tea production, and nearly four percent of the national tea production. The Company maintains high quality standards and are certified with Ethical Tea Partnership, HACCP Food Safety Standard and ISO 22000. Retaining the highest sales achievements at the Colombo Tea Auction for a period of 20 years, it has received international certifications, including CQC 2 Star Award by the Sri Lankan Tea Board.
The Galpaditenne Tea Factory, situated in Lellopitiya, Ratnapura is a cutting-edge tea factory equipped with some of the finest machinery in the tea manufacturing industry and produces low grown orthodox and CTC Teas. The automation of the tea production process at the Galpaditenne Tea Factory, enabled it to efficiently produce over 4 million kilograms of tea annually, making it the world’s largest orthodox black tea manufacturing factory. It also holds the title of highest tea producer in a single factory continually for the last 18 years.
The factory also pioneered the use of fully automated fermenting machines for orthodox tea and a fully automated tea packing machine. The entire production process is carried on without any human intervention, ensuring consistent levels of quality, superior hygienic standards and eliminating all packing variance issues. The “Suduwalipathahena”, “Suduwalipathahena Super” and “Higalgoda” garden marks which the tea is sold under, is synonymous with high quality around the world.
The Factory has won many accolades including the 2013 National Plantation Award for Best Tea Factory (large scale) in the Ratnapura region, and the island as well as the SD Excellence Silver Award in 2013 and the SD Excellence Bronze Award in 2014.

This 1361 acre estate is situated high above the town of Palmadulla and was once a tea plantation that was under the British Empire. This renowned and profitable estate is also known for its beauty and serenity. Home to Sri Lanka's 7th largest waterfall Kiridi Ella, the breathtaking sight adds to the splendour and charm of this beautiful estate.
The estate also has a natural water reservoir which generates over 75% of the energy requirements of the factory. The “Kuttapitiya” and “Kuttapitiya Super” garden marks are well recognized in the tea trade and has fared exceptionally well in the weekly tea auctions.

A harvest of nearly 2.5 million kilograms of Black Tea each year makes this one of the largest tea producers in the Sabaragamuwa Province. The factory uses cutting edge technologies to ensure high quality, earning it the CQC 2 Star Award and HACCP Food Safety Standard and ISO 22000. The tea is sold under the “KDU”, “KDU Super” and “Rose Hill” garden marks and are held in high esteem.

Also situated in the Lellopitiya region, the Peak View Tea Factory marks another milestone for the KDU group. With production exceeding over 150,000kg per month, the tea is manufactured maintaining the highest quality standards and is compliant with HACCP and ISO22000 food standards.
Both the “Peak View” and “Peak View Super” garden marks are popular among our buyers and is well sought after. Similar to Galpaditenne, Peak View has also won the CQC 2 Star Award.

Located on the Kiriella-Ellawala-Eheliyagoda road in Iddangoda, this plantation annually produces over 950,000kg of low grown teas under the “Matuwagala Super” and “Matuwagala A” garden marks. Matuwagala Tea Factory has obtained both HACCP certification and ISO 22000 standards.

“Nilvin View” was the last factory to be acquired by the Group’s late founder, Mr. K. D. Upasena. It is located in the Wallandura region of Ratnapura and produces approximately 125,000kgs of green leaf per month, sold under the “Nilvin View”, Nilvin View Super” and “Hapurudeniya” garden marks.

Peak Paradise sources the majority of its green leaves from its own tea gardens although a portion of it is also sourced from smallholder plantations nearby. With an average production of nearly 1 million kilograms a year, most of our buyers purchase our tea through the “Peak Paradise” and “Manikthanne” garden marks.
